in the next few weeks we will be launching a process that will support MastoCanucks who wish to petition their local cities and towns regarding digital independence from U.S. based social media platforms. The petition will request that municipalities immediately stop using X (formally Twitter) and recommend that they establish a presence on Mastodon.
As a prelude to that process we have put together a list of municipalities and government agencies that have already make the right decision to stop using the X platform. This list is likely not complete as some governments have simply stopped posting on their X account without any public notice. If we're missing a government organization please reach out and provide with the details, via our Mastodon account or through the contact us form.
From west to east, here are towns, cities and government agencies in canada that stopped using X (in some limited cases X is only used for emergency communications). Media links provided where available.

These municipalities and government agencies have all decided that they do not wish to be associated with hate speech, racism, and, misinformation. They still need to take the next step and join the Mastodon Canada community and move closer to digital sovereignty in their use of social media.
With your assistance we can continue to add to this list by proactively making use of our email templates and soon to be announced petition process.
